let me out!

(no subject)

It's been a while since I posted to the community, hell been a while since anyone has. Was just wondering if anyone is still active on lj or not who is part of the community.

Myself, I'm no longer employed with a movie theater, after 10 years of working for a company I got laid off when they closed down a theater.....after being told 6 months prior if that was going to happen my job would be safe.

But hey, we deal with a lot of crap at the theater, but I discovered while working for a retail store during black friday is that it only prepares you for what could be, and makes it seem like nothing could be as bad as what you dealt with at the theater. So here's to all of us who have worked a movie theater, it'll prepare you for the future and make you appreciate working elsewhere!

Has this community REALLY been sitting idle for a year?

Well, no matter. Having had a 70mm print of Jurassic Park cone on me (on BOTH platters, mind you), I appreciate this shirt entirely too well. No doubt some of you will, too.

So I know I am not the only one who has worked box office in the past. I just thought I would share some of the interesting...movie titles I have been asked for. Not all of them are current as I was waiting till I got a good nmber of them to post, but I seem to forget to write them down hald the time!

Anyway, on to the sharing!

1. Baby lone - for Babylon AD
2. Challenging - for Changling
3. Zero Zero 7 - for Quantum of Solace ( can understand saying double o 7, but not what they said!)
4. That Holiday Movie - they were refering to 4 Christmases, which thankfully at the time was the only holiday movie out right then
5. That Tyler Perry Movie - for Not Easily Broken which is a TD Jakes movie

I know I have had others in the past but they have been forgotten, these are just the few I have come across in the last few months.

I also hate it when we get calls asking "What's a good movie" or "What's a good scary movie". I seriously got the second one over Christmas when my theater had NO scary movies at all.

I haven't posted in a while, but I thought I should share this picture....

I took this bulb out of a projector a few weeks ago...the only time I have ever put on ALL the saftey gear to change out a bulb....this one scared the crap outta me! And forgive the kinda crappy quality, I took this pic with my phone...

About a month before that I changed out a bulb that was also excessively cloudy, almost to the point of being black and had drops of the silver on the glass, but it at least wasn't blue like the front of this one was! And it was dead instead of barely showing on screen like this one was....

Positive Work Environment?

I'm taking a fraud examination class in college, and one of the things they say that helps prevent fraud is a positive work environment. Then they provided a list of 11 things that detract from a positive work environment. My theatre has over half the things on this list, which makes me laugh at loud because it tells me something I already know. No matter how much lipstick puts on, it is still a pig.

The list, for those of you curious (bolded entries apply to my theatre)
1. Top management that does not care about or pay attention to the behavior of the employees.
2. Negative feedback or lack of recognition of job performance.
3. Percieved inequities in an organization.
4. Autocratic rather than participative management.
5. Low organizational loyalty.
6. Unreasonable budget expectations.
7. Unrealistically low pay.

8. Poor training and promotion opportunities.
9. High turnover and/ or absenteeism.
10. Lack of clear organizational responsibilities.
11. Poor communication within the organization.

God I can't wait to quit my job.

this post isn't very current.

we had another projector mess up on us. something else burned on within the rectifier of one of our projectors. another usher b, the lame term for projectionists, called me over saying he smelled something burning. i couldn't figure out where it was coming from so i just blew it off and kinda didn't think about it for a second. then i remembered my previous encounter with the last projector that nearly caught fire. this time it was one of our christies instead of a cfs lamphouse. anyways i decide to opening up the door below the automation so take a look at the diodes. sure enough a transformer was smoking again. i turned it off immediatly but could not find a source of the problem. i opened up the opposite side and to my surprise saw massive amounts of burned wires, transformers, and circuit boards. all in all the entire rectifier had to be replaced.

a sad day in our theater when we had to close down our largest auditorium to do the repairs.

oh well. burning smell = bad.

we had a projector nearly catch fire due to our lame ass technician. i think anyone that works for cinemark knows how lame techs can be. our theaters especially since the guy only got the job because he's related to a higher up. well turns out he forgot to screw on a resistor properly on a projector causing it to make contact a transformer that supplies power to the lamp. i noticed a pretty bad flickering when i started the movie and asked another projectionist for help while i started another movie. before i knew what was going on my friend is yelling across the booth that #17 was smoking. we were able to fix the problem, but not before one of the four transformers on the power supply to become nice and crispy. funny thing is that the smoke vented into an auditorium across the hall not setting off any smoke alarms. :[ that's probably not a good thing considering there was a good amount of smoke in the auditorum.

What ever could have been going on in the projection booth?
